Every year more than 5 million pairs of glasses are sold worldwide, and as the average person changes their glasses every 2 years that’s approximately 1.6 million pairs of glasses that get thrown away each year. And that’s just those that have been sold, many more pairs end up unsold, stored away.
Due to their composition, glasses frames are tricky to recycle so the majority of them end up in landfill… but there is another option.
With a beautiful collection of pre-loved and vintage glasses and sunglasses, Queen of Specs offers a more sustainable option when it comes to choosing your next pair of glasses. Based in Cheltenham and with over 50 years in optics, Queen of Specs have curated a collection of eyewear from all over the world that includes designs from leading fashion houses such as Prada, Gucci, Cazal, Christian Dior and Hugo Boss.
Once the pre-loved frames have been sourced, they are put through a rigorous reconditioning process whereby each frame is ultra-sonically cleaned, nose pads and ear tips replaced, then a final buff and polish before adding the prescription (or non-prescription) lenses of your choice to create the perfect pair of preloved sustainable glasses for you.
‘Our commitment is to ensure we provide an opportunity to ethically re-purpose glasses frames, prevent them from going to landfill, and create a bespoke look for all our customers. Our in-house optician is available to create your prescription lenses, and our eyewear stylist is happy to offer help and advice on choosing the perfect frames for you.’
